Lawmakers Rally Around Competing Stopgaps
Republican and Democratic leaders are rallying members around two drastically different funding plans, a competition that heightens the risk of an Oct. 1 shutdown.
House Republicans aim to pass a stopgap funding measure Friday, seeking support for a bill that would keep agencies running through Nov. 21 and sidestep any policy debates. Democrats countered yesterday with a proposal to fund agencies through Oct. 31, to permanently extend pandemic-era health subsidies, and to largely stop Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought from blocking the expenditure of funds.
