Nassau County Republicans have tapped a Long Island county tax official to head the opposition against Rep. Laura Gillen (D) in one of the more competitive midterm seats.
The choice ends speculation that the Department of Labor’s Inspector General Anthony D’Esposito would run against Gillen in a 2024 rematch. The seat leans Democratic and could be an uphill race for a Republican, though Long Island has historically been a GOP stronghold.
