U.S. Representative Jim Jordan, the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, is asking the federal judiciary’s policy making body to reveal information about how a draft plan to bar judicial membership in two leading legal organizations came to be.
If adopted, the Judicial Conference Codes of Conduct Committee draft opinion, would prohibit judges from being members of the conservative Federalist Society and its liberal counterpart American Constitution Society. It would allow membership in the American Bar Association. The proposal was leaked in January after being circulated among U.S. judges.
