House Condemns Illinois Democrat’s Election ‘Subversion’ (1)

Republicans and almost two-dozen Democrats in the House voted to disapprove of Rep. Chuy Garcia’s last-minute retirement decision that allowed his chief of staff to run uncontested in the Democratic primary for his seat.

Garcia, who represents a deep blue Chicago-area district, initially filed paperwork to run for reelection but withdrew his petitions after the early November filing deadline. The move basically ensured his chief of staff, who filed her own paperwork right before the deadline, would be the only Democrat on the primary ballot to succeed him.
