Bills Aimed at TikTok, Apple Kid Safety Approved by House Panel

House lawmakers advanced a wide-ranging legislative package that seeks to improve online safety and privacy for children and teenagers and impose new obligations on technology companies to protect young users.

“Our approach is clear: protect kids, empower parents, and future proof our legislation as new risks and technologies emerge,” Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s commerce, manufacturing, and trade panel said during a markup Thursday. “Families deserve clarity. Parents deserve control. And bad actors must face real consequences.”
