GOP Speaker Johnson Pours Cold Water on Trump Talk of 2028 Run

House Speaker Mike Johnson dismissed Donald Trump’s repeated talk of possibly running for another presidential term, saying the US Constitution’s two-term limit would block him from such a bid.

“I don’t see the path for that,” said Johnson, the top-ranking Republican in the US House. “I think the president knows, and he and I have talked about the restrictions in the Constitution.”

Trump has frequently teased the prospect of running for a third term as president despite the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution prohibiting any commander-in-chief from being elected to more than two terms.
