House Democrats kicked off a reinvigorated push to elevate opposition to President Donald Trump’s war in Iran Thursday, unsuccessfully trying to force their chamber to unanimously restrict his military powers.
The forced-adoption attempt during a pro-forma session was destined to fail, but it previewed Democrats’ focus on rebuking the war in Iran when the chamber returns to session next week. Democrats in the House and Senate have vocally condemned Trump’s aggressive rhetoric and threats toward Iran and pressed their Republican colleagues to split with the president on the unpopular military campaign as it drags into a second month.
