Georgia Democratic Representative David Scott Dies at 80 (1)

Representative David Scott has died, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries confirmed on Wednesday. He was 80 years old.

The Georgia Democrat, who served in the US House since 2003, was the first Black chairman of the Agriculture Committee. Scott’s death brings the House to 217 Republicans, 212 Democrats and one independent. He voted in the House on Tuesday.

Scott was brother-in-law to Hank Aaron and in 2021 introduced a House resolution honoring the life and legacy of the baseball legend. Scott’s grandson is LA Chargers running back Kimani Vidal.

“David Scott was a trailblazer,” Jeffries told reporters.
