France moved closer to passing an emergency bill to help expand livestock farming and tackle rising food imports, as the European agricultural powerhouse tries to revive its food trade balance.
The legislation was approved by a majority at the National Assembly on Tuesday after months of heated debates amid tensions between the government and angry farmers. It still needs to be approved by the Senate before a final vote that the government hopes to take place in July.
Historically Europe’s biggest farming nation, France has increasingly been importing food, leading to a
