Domestic Organic Production Gets Bipartisan Push for Expansion

Organic businesses and farmers would get new grant funding to expand production under bipartisan legislation lawmakers plan to introduce Wednesday.

“With the demand for organic foods continuing to skyrocket, we need to make sure that any organic farmer who wants to grow their business, has the tools and resources to do it,” Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), the bill’s sponsor, said in a statement.

Senate Appropriations Chair Susan Collins (R-Maine) is cosponsoring the bill — obtained first by Bloomberg Government — while Rep. Andrea Salinas (D-Ore.) will introduce the House version with Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) cosponsoring, according to Baldwin’s ...
