Defense Policy Bill Would Give DHS, DOJ New Anti-Drone Authority

Federal, state, local and tribal governments would gain authority to down threatening drones under defense policy legislation released Sunday.

The bill would allow the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security to increase anti-drone measures ahead of high-profile events such as the 2026 World Cup, which the US will host with Mexico and Canada. Such expanded legal authorities follow months of lobbying by a variety of interest groups, including professional sports leagues and law enforcement groups.
