A broad package of California bills targeting how companies use algorithms to set prices was narrowed by lawmakers on Friday amid opposition from the business sector.
The Assembly Appropriations Committee advanced a bill (SB 295) authored by Sen. Melissa Hurtado (D) that would prohibit businesses from setting prices using algorithms based on data from competitors. The panel adopted amendments that would exclude certain services, such as credit reporting tools.
