Cuba Calls Fatal Boat Clash a Foiled Uprising as US Investigates

Cuba says the 10 men aboard a Florida-registered speedboat that engaged in a deadly firefight off the island’s northern coast intended to mount an insurrection, as the US cautions that further investigation is necessary.

The passengers were identified late Wednesday as Cubans living in the US. The Cuban Coast Guard shot and killed four of them while another six were injured and detained after they opened fire, according to an Interior Ministry statement.
