Capitol Police Retirement Age Raised in Bill Cleared for Trump

The House Tuesday cleared for the president’s signature a bill to raise the retirement age for Capitol Police officers.

House lawmakers passed by voice vote S. 4530, which would set a new retirement age between 57 and 62. Current law sets the Capitol Police retirement age at 57 and allows an exemption up to 60.

The bill will be sent to President Donald Trump for his signature.

Senate Rules Chairman Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) introduced the bill May 14, and the Senate passed it by unanimous consent the same day. The panel’s ranking member, Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) cosponsored the bill. ...
