Pam Bondi, in one of her first moves as attorney general, plans to reverse a decade long uptick in criminal enforcement of foreign lobbying cases even as other countries seek lobbyists to navigate the new Trump administration.
Previously a lobbyist for foreign clients, Bondi indicated she will roll back the Justice Department’s recent focus on the once obscure Foreign Agents Registration Act. Bipartisan scandals involving Hunter Biden, Paul Manafort and his work for Ukrainian clients and recently sentenced Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) put the 1930s law in the spotlight.
