Bill Seeking to Protect Living Organ Donors Moves in Senate (1)

A Senate committee Thursday advanced a bill that aims to protect living donors from being denied life and disability insurance.

“I am a doctor who treated patients who are on the organ transplant list, knowing that sometimes people die on the organ transplant list because an organ does not become available,” Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, said at the markup of the bill.

“If we can make a living donation more possible, that is something we should do,” he said. The measure was advanced 22-1 out of the committee.
