President Donald Trump’s push to eliminate diversity programs and overhaul federal procurement has raised questions about the future of small business contracting programs.
Federal agencies give preference to small contractors to meet annual procurement goals set by the Small Business Administration. In fiscal 2024, 22.8% — $176 billion — of governmentwide spending was with small businesses. Agencies are also required to set aside a portion of contracts for disadvantaged and underserved small businesses.
