BGOV Bill Analysis: H.R. 556, Lead Ammunition on Federal Land

The Agriculture and Interior departments couldn’t ban the use of lead ammunition or tackle on federal land and water under H.R. 556.

The departments also couldn’t issue regulations related to the level of lead in ammunition or tackle used on such land or water.

A US Fish and Wildlife Service rule finalized in October 2023 prohibits lead ammunition and tackle in specified national wildlife refuge areas beginning Sept. 1, 2026.
