BGOV Bill Analysis: H.R. 2616, Ban Gender Identity Education

Public schools couldn’t use federal funds to teach gender identity concepts under a modified version of H.R. 2616, which would also require parental approval for schools to change elementary or middle school students’ gender pronouns or sex-based accommodations.

The bill would prohibit K-12 schools from using funds received under the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act to teach or advance concepts related to gender ideology as defined in an executive order issued on President Donald Trump’s first day of his second term.
