Primary day in deep-blue Illinois feels like general election day.

The winner of Tuesday’s Democratic primaries for an open Senate seat and several House districts in Chicagoland will be shoo-ins in November.

Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton and Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly are the leading candidates for the seat that Dick Durbin (D) is giving up after 30 years in the Senate and 44 years in Congress.

There’s little separating the Democratic candidates on policy. Stratton is running as a candidate explicitly opposed to New York Sen. Chuck Schumer’s leadership of the Democratic Caucus.
