UK to Favor Renewable, Data Center Connections in Grid Reforms

UK energy regulator Ofgem is expected to confirm reforms to accelerate power-grid connections for industries from wind and solar projects to data centers and AI, according to a statement from the government.

  • Companies are currently waiting up to 15 years to connect to the grid
  • “The proposed connection reforms will supercharge Great Britain’s clean power ambitions,” Ofgem CEO Jonathan Brearley said in the statement. “Houses and hospitals, electric-vehicle charging stations, data centers and the emerging AI sector would also all benefit from the proposed streamlined fast-track approach”
