University of Nebraska Sued Over Sexual Assault Investigations

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is facing claims by nine current or former students who allege the school denied them the opportunity for a hearing on their claims of sexual assault or sexual harassment.

Lead plaintiff Sheridan Thomas alleges she was raped by another student in a dorm room. Thomas says the school never interviewed her witnesses before concluding that the evidence supported the story of the alleged assailant that the sex was consensual.

She asserts the university denied her the opportunity to cross-examine her assailant, and later denied her request to appeal the decision, in violation of Title IX.
