Lawyers for President Donald Trump and his businesses oppose a judge’s plan for an accelerated lawsuit over whether a congressional committee can obtain their financial records from longtime accountants.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta in Washington said last week that he had enough information to skip a preliminary hearing and to decide the case after holding a trial Tuesday, May 14. Trump’s attorneys now object to that plan and have asked the judge to reinstate the May 14 preliminary injunction hearing and set a longer-term schedule for a trial.
