Johns Hopkins Defeats Suit Over Guatemalan Human STD Experiments

Johns Hopkins University won a suit attempting to hold it liable for the actions of doctors who allegedly aided and abetted illegal human experiments in Guatemala in the 1940s because there was no evidence the doctors knew the experiments were nonconsensual, a federal court in Maryland said.

The estates and heirs of study subjects failed to present evidence that four doctors, who were professors at the school at the time, knew when they recommended the U.S. fund the study that the experiments would be nonconsensual in nature, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland said.
