Conviction Tossed for 1989 Killing of Oregon Prison Director

The decision to vacate a man’s conviction for murdering Oregon’s top prison official in 1989 was proper, the Ninth Circuit ruled on Thursday.

Frank Gable was convicted in 1991 for allegedly stabbing Oregon Department of Corrections Director Michael Francke to death near Francke’s car. But the conviction was tossed almost three decades later by the US District Court for the District of Oregon based on another man’s multiple confessions to the murder and nearly every witness recanting statements that had blamed Gable for the crime.
