Wisconsin Legislature Can’t Intervene in Suit Over Abortion Laws

Wisconsin’s legislature can’t intervene to defend the state’s interest in a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the state abortion regulations because it failed to show the attorney general isn’t adequately representing the state, the Seventh Circuit said Nov. 7.

The legislature sought to intervene so that it could move for dismissal of the suit, which was filed by Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and targets laws only allowing licensed physicians to perform surgical or medication abortions.

State Attorney General Josh Kaul hasn’t asked that the case be dismissed, but he has filed an answer defending the regulations.
