Western Michigan Appeals Freeze on Athlete Vaccine Mandate

Western Michigan University will ask a federal appeals court to overturn a preliminary injunction barring the school from requiring athletes to get vaccinated for Covid-19, according to a notice filed Friday.

The university filed the notice of appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit four days after the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan granted the injunction.

The plaintiffs—Emily Dahl, Hannah Redoute, Bailey Korhorn, and Morgan Otteson—applied for religious exemptions from the vaccine requirement but were denied, according to their complaint.
