Trivago, Expedia Must Face Lawsuit Over Seized Cuban Property

Several online booking companies can no longer avoid a lawsuit alleging that they profited from beach-front property siezed by the Cuban government, in violation of federal law.

The plaintiffs’ claims “arise out of or relate to” the defendant’s contacts with Florida, where the suit was filed, so jurisdiction there is proper, the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit ruled.

Mario Del Valle, Enrique Falla, and Aneglo Pou sued Trivago GmbH, Expedia Group Inc., Booking.com BV and others under the Helms-Burton Act, claiming they profited from property that had been confiscated and to which they were the rightful heirs. ...
