Transgender Health Care Coverage Ban Challenged in New Lawsuit

A transgender health service coverage ban in Tennessee is unconstitutional and a violation of civil rights, according to a federal lawsuit filed by two women who had worked for the state.

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga academic adviser Gerda Zinner and former Knox County Board of Education teacher Story VanNess sued after a state-governed program denied coverage for gender-affirming health care. They say the state entities violated the U.S. Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment as well as the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
