Sony Slapped Down in Effort at Agency to Cancel Gaming Patent

Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC missed its shot at getting a gaming machine patent invalidated, with a panel of Patent and Trademark Office tribunal judges saying the company fell short of proving it could prevail.

Bot M8 LLC’s 7,338,363 patent won’t undergo an inter partes review requested by Sony, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said in a decision entered Friday. Sony alleged that previous patents involving slot machines proved Bot M8’s ‘363 patent was invalid, though the arguments fell flat before the tribunal.
