Solicitor General Pick Teed Up for Senate Vote to End Debate

The full Senate plans later this week to hold the first of what is expected to be two votes on the nomination of Elizabeth Prelogar for U.S. solicitor general.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said the Democratic-led chamber would as early as Wednesday first consider a cloture motion, or a proposal to end debate, on Prelogar’s selection to be the government’s top lawyer at the Supreme Court.

If cloture is invoked and Prelogar is then confirmed, the Harvard Law School graduate would become just the second woman to hold the job after Elena Kagan, now a Supreme Court justice.
