Saudi Arabian Officials Will Be Deposed Virtually In 9/11 Case

The victims and families of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks failed to convince a federal judge in Manhattan Tuesday that 14 current and former Saudi Arabian government officials should be required to fly to the U.S. for in-person depositions during the coronavirus pandemic.

The plaintiffs unsuccessfully argued that the depositions could be held in “a warm-weather state like Arizona, where depositions could be held outdoors” and that participants would wear masks and socially distance, according to Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn’s opinion for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
