SAP NS2 Hires National Security Vet as Next General Counsel (Correct)

June 4, 2020, 8:18 PMUpdated: June 5, 2020, 1:00 AM

SAP National Security Services Inc. has hired former federal prosecutor and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft partner Joseph Moreno as its next general counsel.

Joseph Moreno joined SAP NS2 last month after spending almost five years as a partner at Cadwalader, where he specialized in white-collar defense and investigations, cybersecurity, and data privacy issues. Moreno also previously worked at the Justice Department, where he prosecuted international money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes for the National Security Division’s counterterrorism section.

Working for a company that serves customers in the national security field is an opportunity Moreno “really couldn’t pass up,” he told Bloomberg Law Thursday.

Moreno, a combat veteran of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, is currently a lieutenant colonel and legal adviser in the U.S. Army Reserve. Moreno said his 20 years of military service give him a “comfort factor” with the security needs of SAP NS2’s clients.

Moreno joined the Herndon, Va.-based company May 18. He succeeds his former Cadwalader colleague and mentor Dale Turza, who became general counsel at SAP NS2 in 2015 and is now its executive vice president of legal affairs and strategic initiatives.

The company announced a partnership with wireless power development company Ossia Inc. in April to provide “end-to-end IT” solutions for commercial, aerospace and defense, and intelligence community customers.

Moreno, a frequent commentator on legal issues for Bloomberg Law and other media outlets, said SAP NS2 is well-equipped to handle the transition to remote work, with its employees already accustomed to adapting to technological advancements.
