San Francisco Wants Health Worker Religious Bias Rule Blocked

San Francisco is asking a federal court to block a rule that will allow any health-care worker to refuse to provide patients with treatment or information based solely on their religious or moral beliefs.

The city says it can’t realistically refuse to comply with the rule because its facilities depend on taxpayer money supplied by the U.S. Health and Human Services Department. The rule allows the HHS’s Office for Civil Rights to withhold federal money from noncompliant providers, they told the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California June 3.
