Planned Parenthood Sues South Carolina Over New Abortion Law

A new South Carolina law that bans abortions at about six weeks of pregnancy—after fetal heart sounds are detected—violates a woman’s constitutional right to end a pregnancy before viability and must be struck down, three abortions providers say in a lawsuit filed against the state Thursday.

The South Carolina legislature passed the law the same day the suit was filed, and it will become effective immediately after it’s signed by Gov. Henry McMaster (R), Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, Greenville Women’s Clinic, and physician Terry Buffkin say in their complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. ...
