Paralyzed Hyundai Driver Beats Appeal of $32.8 Million Judgment

Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai Motor Co. remain on the hook for a $32.8 million judgment to a man who was paralyzed in a car crash when his driver’s seat failed, following a Wisconsin appeals court ruling that rejected the automaker’s evidentiary challenges.

Edward A. Vanderventer Jr. and Susan Vanderventer were riding in the couples’ 2013 Hyundai Elantra when it was struck from behind by another vehicle. Edward, who was driving, suffered a spinal fracture and became paraplegic.
