Ohio Judges Can Get Paid for Teaching, Provide Recommendations

Judges can be paid for teaching but not giving a talk, and can provide letters of recommendation based on personal knowledge of the individual requesting one, two ethics opinions from the Ohio ethics board said.

The opinions, released Dec. 10, provide guidance for judges regarding conduct that falls outside their official duties, with the mandate to remain impartial playing a key role in both opinions.

Judges who choose to give a talk or teach aren’t limited to legal topics but are constrained by their jobs, the first opinion said.
