Officers Get New Shot in Defamation Row Against Seattle Official

A group of police officers convinced the Ninth Circuit Wednesday to revive their lawsuit alleging they were defamed by a member of the Seattle City Council, with the appellate court finding that the comments were directed at the individual officers.

While attempting to make an arrest in February of 2016, Seattle police officers Scott Miller and Michael Spaulding shot and killed a Black man named Che Taylor. Several days after the shooting, council member Kshama Sawant called on the police to be held “accountable for their reprehensible actions, individual actions.”
