NFL Concussion Deal Upheld as Imperfect But Fair

The National Football League’s concussion class settlement may not be perfect, but it’s fair, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit said April 18 (In re Nat’l Football League Players Concussion Injury Litig., 2016 BL 120305, 3d Cir., 15-2206, 4/18/16).

“It is the nature of a settlement that some will be dissatisfied with the ultimate result,” Judge Thomas L. Ambro wrote on behalf of the three-judge panel. The deal “is a testament to the players, researchers, and advocates who have worked to expose the true human costs of a sport so many love.”
