The nonprofit Government Justice Center sued New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and state legislative leaders on Friday, alleging they violated the state’s constitution in failing to fully fund a nonpartisan redistricting commission.
The 10-member panel has been waiting nearly a year for a $1 million state grant.
The lawsuit was filed in state Supreme Court in Albany on behalf of Ross Brady, a member of the commission, and voter Angela Renna, who ran for the state Senate last year. It calls for the state to release funding and pay for necessary staffing and expenses.
