Kohl’s Sees Class Suit Over ‘Cash’ Coupons Revived in California

Kohl’s Department Stores Inc. must face a proposed class of California shoppers who say they were misled by the retailer’s coupon program, after a state appellate court revived the claims under the Consumers Legal Remedies Act on Wednesday.

For every $50 spent at Kohl’s, customers can earn $10 in so-called “Kohl’s Cash” the complaint, filed in Los Angeles in 2017, alleges. But, despite the name and appearance of these coupons, they aren’t treated like actual cash, and instead are applied to purchases before percentage discounts.
