Juveniles’ Suit Over ‘Empire’ Filming Greenlit But Fox Dismissed

Twentieth Century Fox Television got dismissed from a suit alleging the filming of the Fox show “Empire” harmed juveniles at an Illinois detention center, but a federal court on Thursday certified several classes to proceed against Cook County.

Two then-detainees alleged the show’s filming in the summer of 2015 negatively altered the normal operations of the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center, including by eliminating outdoor recreation, disrupting educational classrooms, and even in some instances delaying medical attention.

The juveniles filed constitutional claims against Cook County and CJTDC superintendent Leonard Dixon, and raised state-law claims against Fox and related companies. ...
