President Donald Trump nominated newly minted federal district Judge Peter Phipps to a slot on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit May 3 in his latest round of judicial nominations.
Phipps served for 14 years at the Department of Justice, most recently as senior trial counsel in the Federal Programs Branch of the Department of Justice’s Civil Division. Earlier in his career he had a three-year stint as an associate at the global law firm Jones Day.
With his judicial appointments, Trump has flipped the Third Circuit from mostly Democratic-appointed judges to mostly Republican-appointed judges.
