In George Floyd’s State, Lawmakers At Odds Over How Much To Do

Lawmakers in the state where George Floyd lived and died were at an impasse Friday over whether they needed to do more than ban police chokeholds before going home for the rest of the year.

Republicans meeting during a special session of the Minnesota Legislature said they planned to adjourn by midnight Friday. The Democratic-led state House urged the Republican-controlled state Senate to stay in session. If senators decide to adjourn, then House members would have to choose between doing nothing or clearing Senate-passed bills they criticized as insufficient.
