House Democrats to Renew Court Ethics Bill After Recusal Report

Top Democrats on House Judiciary Committee plan to reintroduce court ethics and transparency legislation and conduct hearings in response to a report that U.S. judges have failed to disclose financial ties to cases before them.

More than 130 federal judges didn’t recuse themselves from cases in which they or a family member held stock in a company involved in the lawsuit, violating federal law and judicial ethics, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. Its investigation was based on judges’ own financial disclosures.
