High Court Capital Case Gets Boost from Muscogee Tribe

An American Indian convicted of murder in 1999 in Oklahoma is getting help from his tribe in a case that pits tribal sovereignty against business interests.

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation filed a friend of the court brief Sept. 26 on behalf of one of its members, Patrick Murphy. It also seeks to participate in oral argument.

While much of the country has been distracted by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation battle, the high court is gearing up for the 2018 term.
