Ford, Mazda Accident Cases Differ on Cars Crossing State Lines

Mazda Motor Corp. can’t be sued in New Mexico over a car it sold in California, but Ford Motor Co. may be sued in Montana over an SUV it sold in Washington state, courts in New Mexico and Montana ruled on the same day.

The personal-injury suit against Mazda and the wrongful-death suit against Ford have some similar facts about vehicles initially sold in one state that are re-sold in another and crash there.
