Florida Expands Access to Court Hearings Pushed Online by Virus

Florida is expanding public access to trials and other court hearings held remotely because of the pandemic, the state supreme court said Monday.

The “Virtual Courtroom Directory” will allow people to search for and watch first appearances, arraignments, criminal pre-trial hearings, violation of probation, criminal and civil trials, and oral arguments. Closed captioning also will be available.

The Florida Supreme Court, all five of the state’s district courts, and four judicial circuits including Bay, Broward, Leon, and Miami-Dade counties now can be accessed in the directory. Other courts will be added as the program expands.
