FCC Begins Accepting Provider Asks For Unlicensed Airwave Use

Broadband providers can begin submitting proposals to the Federal Communications Commission to operate in the 6 GHz band, the agency said.

Under the commission’s rules, certain devices must adhere to an “automated frequency coordination” system prior to operating in the band. Adhering to the AFC system helps avoid harmful interference with incumbent operators.

Broadband providers have until Nov. 30 to submit initial proposals detailing how they will check the AFC system, the FCC said in a public notice. Comments on the proposals are due Dec. 21.
