Ex-Wife’s Testimony Against Doctor in Securities Fraud Case OK

A doctor who used information garnered from his then wife about a new leukemia drug her employer was developing to trade the company’s stock was properly convicted of securities fraud, the First Circuit said Wednesday.

Maureen Curran’s testimony concerning how she felt betrayed and hurt when she learned her then-husband Dr. Harold Altvater breached her confidence and bought and sold Ariad Pharmaceuticals Inc. stock based on information he got from her about development of the drug Iclusig wasn’t the reason Altvater was convicted, the opinion by Judge David J. Barron said.
